Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in power within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of characters who will split off from the main group to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might appear mismatched, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as important members in House Halovar could help the team enter places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to head to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Planners tables.

Audiences can expect learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
